STUDIOWAGLE

Artist Ken Wagle is a member of the Society of Sculptors, Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, South Arts, and South Hills Arts League.

Since his early years he has created and sold art from his repertoire of genres which include airbrush, woodcarving (especially Santas, eagles, and figureheads), scrimshaw, nature photography, sketching and painting.

One will never see Ken without one of his numerous sketchbooks. Some are filled with sketches of passengers on the South Hills Village T; others hold drawings of animals, mystical creatures, Santas created from his imagination, scenes from nature walks, and designs for sculptures.

Scrimshaw

Scrimshaw is a true American art form practiced by the early whalers to pass the time at sea while waiting for the next whale. Lines are etched into the surface of the medium (historically whale teeth and bones), then filled with ink to create an image.

There is a ban on whaling and the harvesting of Ivory. Modern day scrimshanders use fossilized ivory or a synthetic material to carry on the tradition of this beautiful art form.
